🐾 Liberty Paw Spa Pet Tip of the Week

Rabies Awareness: A Reminder for Lexington Pet Families

Lexington, NC • August 29, 2026

This week's Pet Tip of the Week comes with an important reminder for pet owners throughout Lexington and Davidson County: know your pet's rabies protection and be cautious when your pets or family members come into contact with unfamiliar animals.

⚠️ Local Rabies Alert

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services recently confirmed multiple cases of rabies in baby goats associated with a mobile petting zoo that traveled to events throughout North Carolina.

Closer to home, the Davidson County Health Department reported that four goats at the petting zoo at the August 1 Community Connections event at Breeden Amphitheater in Lexington tested positive for rabies. Anyone who attended that event and held one of the baby goats is being asked to contact the Davidson County Health Department for an individual risk assessment.

This is an important reminder that rabies isn't limited to dogs, cats, raccoons, or bats. Any mammal can contract rabies, and the virus is generally spread through the saliva of an infected animal, most commonly through a bite or when saliva comes into contact with broken skin or the eyes, nose, or mouth.

🐶 What Can Pet Owners Do?

Keep your pet's rabies vaccination current.
Rabies vaccination is one of the most important things you can do to protect your dog or cat from this deadly disease.

Avoid contact with unfamiliar wildlife.
Never approach or attempt to handle wild animals, particularly animals that appear sick, injured, unusually friendly, disoriented, or active during unusual hours.

Be cautious around unfamiliar domestic animals.
Petting zoos and animal encounters can be wonderful experiences, but children and adults should follow the event's safety guidelines and avoid contact with animals that appear ill or behave abnormally.

If your pet is bitten or exposed, contact your veterinarian promptly.
If you or a family member is bitten, scratched, or otherwise exposed to potentially infected saliva, contact your healthcare provider or local health department for guidance.

Important: If you attended the August 1 Community Connections event in Lexington and personally handled one of the baby goats, contact the Davidson County Health Department for a risk assessment.

✂️ Grooming Tip of the Week

Rabies isn't the only reason to keep up with your pet's routine care.

Regular professional grooming provides an opportunity to check your pet's skin and coat for irritation, unusual bumps, parasites, mats, or other changes that may otherwise go unnoticed.

At Liberty Paw Spa, we believe grooming is about more than making your pet look great. It's about helping them stay clean, comfortable, and well cared for.

A healthy coat means more comfortable cuddles! 🐶❤️🐱

How Often Should You Bathe Your Dog?

Most veterinarians and dog experts recommend bathing your dog every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on their breed, activity level, coat type, and lifestyle. Bathing less frequently than every 3 months can allow dirt, oil buildup, and odors to accumulate, while bathing too often may strip natural skin oils and cause dryness or irritation.

At Liberty Paw Spa in Lexington, NC, we make it easy and affordable for you to follow these expert recommendations. Our professional dog bathing and grooming services go far beyond a basic bath. We provide thorough, gentle care that leaves your dog looking fresh, feeling pampered, and smelling clean — without breaking the bank.

Our full-service treatments include:

  • Deep cleansing baths tailored to your dog’s coat and skin needs

  • Nail trims to keep paws healthy and prevent scratching

  • Anal gland expressions for comfort and hygiene

  • Deshedding treatments to reduce loose hair and keep your home cleaner

  • And much more

Whether your dog is a couch potato or an active adventurer, we customize each visit so your best friend receives the professional care they deserve. Many local pet owners trust us because we deliver high-quality results at prices that make regular grooming realistic and stress-free.

Professional Dog Nail Trimming in Lexington, NC

Keep your dog’s nails properly trimmed and healthy with our gentle, professional nail trimming services at Liberty Paw Spa in Lexington, North Carolina.

Regular nail trims are essential for your dog’s comfort, mobility, and overall paw health. Overgrown nails can cause pain, change the way your dog walks, and even lead to joint or posture problems over time. We carefully trim and file your dog’s nails to the correct length, making the experience calm and stress-free for both you and your pet.

Whether you have a small breed like a Chihuahua or a large breed like a Labrador, I groom your companion using proper techniques and tools tailored, ( as taught by Canine Clippers School of Pet Grooming, and by Multiple Veterinary Clinics ) to your dog’s size, nail type, and personality. We also check for any signs of issues such as cracked nails or irritated nail beds during every service.

Combine your dog’s nail trim with a full bath, teeth cleaning, or deshedding treatment for complete care in one convenient visit.

Professional Dog Teeth Cleaning in Lexington, NC

Maintain your dog’s dental health with our gentle yet thorough teeth cleaning services at Liberty Paw Spa in Lexington, North Carolina.

Regular teeth cleaning is one of the most important things you can do for your dog’s long-term health. Just like humans, dogs can develop plaque, tartar buildup, bad breath, and gum disease if their teeth aren’t properly cared for. Our professional teeth cleaning helps remove plaque and tartar, freshens breath, and supports healthier gums — all without the need for anesthesia.

During every visit, we carefully clean your dog’s teeth and gums using safe, pet-friendly products and techniques. This service is especially beneficial for small breeds and senior dogs who are more prone to dental issues.

Pairing teeth cleaning with a bath, nail trim, or full grooming session makes it easy and convenient to keep your dog feeling fresh and healthy from nose to tail.

Professional Dog Deshedding Treatment in Lexington, NC

Reduce excessive shedding with our effective deshedding services at Liberty Paw Spa in Lexington, North Carolina.

Heavy shedding can be frustrating for pet owners and uncomfortable for dogs. Our professional deshedding treatment thoroughly removes loose undercoat and dead hair, significantly reducing the amount of fur that ends up on your furniture, clothes, and floors.

This service is especially beneficial for double-coated breeds such as German Shepherds, Huskies, Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, and other heavy shedders. By removing the loose undercoat, we help prevent matting, improve air circulation to the skin, and leave your dog feeling lighter and more comfortable.

Most dogs experience noticeable results after just one session, with less shedding for weeks afterward. For best results, we combine the thorough deshedding dog bath with an extensive blow dry and brush-out.
